What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is an effective weight loss treatment. It works by curbing your appetite and acts as an aid for healthy weight loss. The active ingredient in Wegovy is Semaglutide. Semaglutide is the same active ingredient found in other market leaders such as Ozempic and Rybelsus.

Dosage

Wegovy is available in 5 different dosages:

  • 0.25mg
  • 0.5mg
  • 1mg
  • 1.7mg
  • 2.4mg

Typically, you start on a dose of 0.25mg. This will gradually be increased until you reach a dose that is suitable, and most effective for you.

How to take Wegovy

You administer Wegovy once a week. This is done by a pen injection in your stomach, upper arm or thigh.
It is a simple process that, if needed, your clinician will guide you through.

What are the side effects?

Your clinician will start you on the lowest dose of Wegovy, if you are new to the treatment. If you have been taking the medication, and wish to administer a higher or lower dosage, you will need to provide evidence of your prescription.
This is to limit the potential side effects, which can include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Stomach Pain

Side effects are most common when you start taking the medication, or increase your dosage. This is normal, and side effects should go away once your body has adjusted to the medication.
